I remember that since I was young I used to hear that a beautiful and healthy woman is a woman with a perfect body size, in other words a woman with a super skinny body. I grew up with that concept in my mind; I grew up thinking that I needed to be skinny in order to be “healthy”. However, with the past of the years and after I changed to a healthier lifestyle I understood and concluded that you do not need to be skinny in order to be healthy, because it doesn’t always mean that! Over 5 years ago, started a “boom” on every social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Etc) about being skinny, giving you different tips, ideas, and diets that you could do in order to be skinny and be part of today’s world’s trends. I remember that the first thing that came to my mind when I started to see this trends was: “Thanks God I am skinny and for that reason I am healthy, so I do not need to worry about being part of today’s trends”. A year after I moved to Toronto, I gained some weight and as the majority of today’s advertisements use skinny and good looking people to acclaim that being skinny is good, I got carried away by this misconception; and I decided to stop eating my dinner, yes I used two have just 2 meals per day! (Breakfast and Lunch); after 3 months I lost weight but I started to feeling not so good, I started to have some problems with my health such as depression, anxiety, headaches and other things; I did not know what was wrong with me, but after reading a lot and going to different doctors I understood that as I was having the “Couch Potato lifestyle” and I was not eating good enough so I started to have some problems with my health. There was a blog post that really called my attention, this blog explains that you can be skinny but it does not mean you are healthy because you could be a “skinny fat person” which means that you are under lean but over fat, in other words it means that you do not have too much muscle but, instead you have too much fat, and that is what was happening to me! That is one of the reasons why I made different changes in my daily life such as starting to using the stairs instead of the elevators. I just want you let you know and understand that being skinny does not mean that you are healthy, think about what happened to me, this could have happened to you too! So, go regularly to your doctor, have some blood tests and stay tuned for my other blog posts where I am going to tell you more about how I overcome my health problems and what you can do if you want to change to a healthier lifestyle. Remember, it doesn’t matter if you are super skinny, skinny, curvy or chubby you just need to have a good health condition and feel good with your body. See you soon!
